The Geopark Ries Kids‘ Station Wemding invites visitors of all ages to have fun with outdoor puzzles and experiences. A highlight is the large Memory game with rotating cubes featuring pictures from the town and the entire Ries.
The so-called “sounding stones” are a unique feature in the Geopark Ries. Each rock has its own special sound. With help of the attached wooden percussion sticks, the different rocks can be playfully introduced to the youngest visitors. How the sounding stones work is simply explained by the illustrated figures “Suevie” and “Riesie”—the mascots of the UNESCO Global Geopark Ries. Suevie refers to Suevite, the impact rock typical for the Ries; Riesie is named for the new mineral discovered in the Ries Crater in 2017
